Unrestrained Gibson Man Killed in Terrebonne Parish Crash

Published: 10-18-2024 | Category: Troop C

Gibson - On October 17, 2024, shortly after 7:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop C began investigating a single-vehicle fatality crash on North Bayou Black Drive near Canrience Pumping Road. The crash claimed the life of 63-year-old Andrew Aker of Gibson.

The preliminary investigation revealed Aker was driving a 2015 Nissan Frontier west on North Bayou Black Drive. For reasons still under investigation, the Nissan crossed the centerline, exited the roadway to the left, struck a utility pole, and entered a bayou where it became fully submerged.

Aker, who Troopers determined to be unrestrained at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A standard toxicology sample was collected from Aker and submitted for analysis.

While this crash remains under investigation, impaired, distracted, and inattentive driving continue to be leading causes of crashes in our state. By choosing to drive sober and distraction-free, you significantly reduce the risk of being involved in a crash. Additionally, while not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease the chances of serious injury or death. Always ensure every occupant is properly restrained. Every trip. Every time.
