EUR 17 million in Italian Cooperation resources allocated for emergency interventions in Lebanon

The humanitarian situation in Lebanon has drastically worsened due to escalating violence and displacement. The needs of those who have been forced to leave their homes in recent weeks are compounded by the needs of the host Lebanese communities and the large refugee community residing in the country.

Following the announcement made on Monday 30 September by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Tajani, during the Foreign Affairs Council, the Deputy Minister, Edmondo Cirielli, has allocated EUR 17 million in Italian Cooperation resources for humanitarian interventions in Lebanon. These interventions will be implemented by OCHA (EUR 4 million), UNHCR (EUR 3 million), and Italian NGOs (EUR 10 million). The activities will be tailored to the needs outlined in the United Nations Humanitarian Appeal, with particular attention to the sectors of health, water and sanitation services, education, and child protection.

This confirms the commitment of Italian Cooperation in the Lebanese context, as already demonstrated earlier this year with the approval of resources amounting to EUR 6 million for humanitarian interventions by international organisations such as WFP, UNHCR, and OCHA.
