Sacramento, CA - The Sacramento Chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA) has honored the Elkhorn Boulevard Extension with the prestigious Project of the Year award in the Transportation - Road Category.

Sacramento International Airport (SMF) travelers now have a new award-winning roadway option: the Elkhorn Boulevard Extension. This project enhances airport access by providing a secondary connection to the airport campus in addition to the main I-5 interchange. The extension features a one-mile, four-lane road complete with curbs, gutters, sidewalks, ramps, a traffic signal, and signage, facilitating a seamless connection between the Airport and the California Freight Network. The project's completion also paves the way for future developments at Metro Air Park, including hotels, restaurants, and other travel-supportive amenities.

This accolade recognizes the project for its excellence in management, administration, design, sustainability, construction, and community relations. The award also celebrates the collaboration among the managing agency, designer, contractor, and construction management team.

Funding for the Elkhorn Boulevard Extension was supported by a State's Trade Corridor Enhancement Program grant, which reimbursed construction eligible costs up to $11,000,000.

The successful delivery of this project was a result of the dedicated efforts of multiple departments and agencies over several years:
