Rosen Meets with Washoe County Sheriff About Efforts to Support Law Enforcement, Keep Nevadans Safe

RENO, NV - Earlier this week, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) met with Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam to discuss how he and his department are working to keep communities safe and how Senator Rosen can support them. In their meeting, they talked about what federal resources and funding the Washoe County Sheriff's Office needs.

"The Washoe County Sheriff's Office works tirelessly to keep families in Northern Nevada safe, and it's a priority for me to make sure law enforcement officers have the resources they need to do their jobs safely and effectively," said Senator Rosen. "I was glad to sit down with Sheriff Balaam to discuss what federal resources his officers need and how I can continue working in the U.S. Senate to support them."

"The Washoe County Sheriff's office works hard to keep northern Nevada communities safe, and we need support from all levels of government to continue doing so," said Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam. "I met with Senator Rosen to discuss how we can keep working together to secure additional resources to keep families in Washoe County safe."

Senator Rosen has been a strong supporter of ensuring Nevada's law enforcement community has the resources needed to keep communities safe. Earlier this year, she secured more than 7 million dollars in community project funding for nine law enforcement projects throughout Nevada. Last year, Senator Rosen secured millions for law enforcement and first responders in the 2023 funding bill, ensuring these critical funds were delivered to communities across the state. Senator Rosen also co-sponsored and helped pass the bipartisan Recruit and Retain Act, which was recently signed into law. She introduced bipartisan legislation to help determine best practices for identifying and treating post-traumatic stress and combating suicide among first responders.
