Secretary Blinken’s Call with Head of the Sovereign Council of Sudan Abdel Fattah al-Burhan

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke by phone today with Head of the Sovereign Council of Sudan Abdel Fattah al-Burhan. Secretary Blinken reiterated the need for SAF to participate in ceasefire talks in Switzerland. He emphasized that the devastation and destruction since April 2023 demonstrate that convening national ceasefire talks is the only way to end the conflict, prevent the spread of famine, and restore the civilian political process. The Secretary underscored the need to urgently end the fighting and enable unhindered humanitarian access, including cross border and cross line, to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people.
