Charleston Man Pleads Guilty to Federal Opioid Crime

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Curon Cameron Cordon, 24, of Charleston, pleaded guilty today to distribution of protonitazene and isotonitazene.<_o3a_p>

According to court documents and statements made in court, on May 31, 2023, Cordon sold 13 pills to a confidential informant in Charleston. The West Virginia State Police Forensic Laboratory confirmed that the pills contained protonitazene and isotonitazene, synthetic opioids potentially more dangerous and deadly than fentanyl.<_o3a_p>

Cordon is scheduled to be sentenced on October 31, 2024, and faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, at least three years of supervised release, and a $1 million fine. <_o3a_p>

United States Attorney Will Thompson made the announcement and commended the investigative work of the Charleston Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).<_o3a_p>

United States District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin presided over the hearing. Assistant United States Attorney Lesley C. Shamblin is prosecuting the case.<_o3a_p>
