Financially-distressed Nassau University Medical Center is laying the groundwork to sue the state for what it claims are financial maneuvers that cost the hospital $1 billion in aid over the last two decades.
In a letter to the state attorney general, lawyers for the hospital claim that for the last 23 years the state has failed to pay its share of a Medicaid program designed to reimburse hospitals treating a large number of Medicaid recipients.
