Roseland Area Pavement Maintenance Set to Begin

The City is set to begin a significant pavement maintenance project focusing on rehabilitating approximately 2 miles of residential streets within the Roseland neighborhoods. This initiative will also include upgrading 33 curb ramps to meet current ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) standards, ensuring that all residents have improved accessibility.

Scheduled to begin on September 9, the project is expected to take 8-10 weeks to complete. The initial phase will involve the replacement of the curb ramps. Following this, the streets will undergo a comprehensive two-step pavement treatment known as cape sealing, which includes both chip sealing and slurry sealing. Cape sealing is a preventive pavement maintenance method where the pavement surface is first treated with chip seal and then topped with slurry seal. Once the process is complete and the surface is cured, all new striping will be reinstated to their original configurations.

Although residents may experience temporary disruptions during construction, the City is committed to minimizing the impact and improving the overall infrastructure within the community. This project is a crucial step in enhancing the quality and safety of Roseland's residential streets, reflecting the City's ongoing efforts to maintain and upgrade its public spaces.

The Roseland Pavement Maintenance project is funded through the Roseland Annexation Agreement. As part of this agreement, the County of Sonoma committed to providing $6.62 million for pavement improvement projects within the Roseland Annexation area. The funding is distributed in equal payments of $662,000 over a ten-year period. The Roseland Annexation was finalized in 2017, paving the way for these essential infrastructure improvements.
