GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - ArtPrize, an annual, international art competition, begins this Friday, Sept. 13 with its opening celebration and fireworks display. As many visitors will again flock to Grand Rapids, the City's Mobile GR Department offers the following information for parking and navigating downtown. ArtPrize runs from September 13 to 28.

Here's how to get around Grand Rapids:

  • DASH shuttles are FREE as always and run every day. Use the DASH parking lots for $3 parking and hop on the free DASH shuttle to get around downtown and get to many of the ArtPrize venues. Everything you need to know about the DASH.
  • Utilize an environmentally friendly e-scooter or e-bike rental downtown. Get around quicker and get the ultimate tour of the city. Learn how e-scooters and e-bikes work and how to use them.
  • Walk, bike or roll! ArtPrize is designed to get visitors walking around GR by putting some art exhibits outside at City parks, on sidewalks and outside of buildings. Make sure to be aware of your surroundings and be safe and predictable when moving and walking around. Drivers should be extra careful and aware of pedestrians. In Grand Rapids, pedestrians have the right of way, so drivers must STOP when they see pedestrians trying to cross at an intersection or a marked crosswalk.
  • Looking for a place to park? Besides the $3 DASH lots, Mobile GR has many options for visitors driving into the downtown area. Visit www.grandrapidsmi.gov/Parking for an interactive parking map, rates and a list of free parking services.
  • Make sure to download the City's MOTU app to pay for street parking. It is an easy way to use metered parking, and it will help know when and where parking is enforced. On-street pay stations and parking meters also are available for those who choose not to use the app. Mobile GR enforces meters 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Posted signs indicate select areas of meters on Monroe Center and at electric vehicle charging stations throughout the city that are enforced after 7 p.m. or on Saturdays. Use the interactive parking meters, rates and times map.
  • Visitors should be mindful of current and ongoing road construction. Check out the Road Closure Map.
