FloridaCommerce Announces the Tampa Area June 2024 Employment Data

TAMPA, Fla. - Today, FloridaCommerce announced that the Tampa metro area gained 20,400 new private sector jobs over the year in June 2024, the second highest among all metro areas, increasing by 1.5%. In June 2024, the Tampa metro area led all metro areas in jobs gains over the year in education and health services, increasing by 9,400 jobs; manufacturing, increasing by 2,100 jobs; and financial activities, increasing by 1,800 jobs.

The Tampa area unemployment rate was 3.6% in June 2024, up 0.5 percentage point from the June 2023 rate of 3.1%. The Tampa area's labor force was down 0.2% (-3,259) over the year in June 2024.

Florida's economic data continues to indicate economic strength and stability as the state's total private sector employment grew by 172,700 jobs (2.0%) over the year since June 2023. Faster than the national private sector job growth rate of 1.5% over the same time period.

In June 2024 the professional and business services sector gained the most jobs among all major industries adding 6,000 jobs (+0.4%) from the previous month, followed by education and health services, adding 5,500 jobs (+0.4%). Florida's labor force grew by 66,000 (+0.6%) over the year since June 2023.
