NOPD Arrests Wanted Suspect After Standoff in Sixth District

The NOPD and the U.S. Marshals Task Force today (July 25, 2024) arrested Brandon Laurant (black male, DOB: 04-14-1984) on multiple charges following a standoff incident that occurred in the 1800 block of Washington Avenue.

At about 1:21 p.m., the NOPD and U.S. Marshals Task Force attempted to serve an arrest warrant on Laurant regarding an attempted murder incident in Jefferson Parish. When officers approached the residence where Laurant was located, he barricaded himself inside and refused to surrender to police. After negotiations, Laurant surrendered to police at about 3:10 p.m. and was taken into custody without further incident.

Two additional subjects were found to be inside the residence with Laurant during this incident. At this time, the two have not been charged with any crimes. However, investigation is ongoing regarding these subjects' involvement.

No injuries were reported in this incident.

Laurant was arrested and will be booked on the attempted murder charge, as well as on additional charges of flight from an officer, aggravated criminal damage to property and theft, as well as on felony drug and weapons violations.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
