Jean Nicolas Samedi Jr. Featured in ABA Publication Careers in Business Law

Lowenstein partner Jean Nicolas Samedi, Jr. is featured in Careers in Business Law, a recent publication from the American Bar Association that provides the tools necessary to navigate the different business law practice areas, and tips on making career choices that are strategically sound and aligned with personal aspirations and values. Samedi's story illustrates how strategic decisions and building strong relationships can lead to success in M&A and corporate law.

Author Lana Manganiello describes Samedi's consistent focus on collaboration and mutual support-even among his most competitive classmates at Georgetown Law-as well as his dedication to mentoring and fostering diversity in the legal community. She writes about how Samedi overcame his initial reluctance to promote himself: "Reflecting on his early years in the legal field, he acknowledges that his natural introversion and the merit-based values instilled in him as a first-generation American initially hindered his progress…Nick shares a pivotal moment in his career when a mentor highlighted the importance of making oneself known within the firm-not just as a diligent worker but as an integral part of the team with unique contributions. This realization prompted him to shift his approach, actively seeking opportunities to demonstrate his skills and value beyond the confines of his office."

Samedi observes: "Success in law, particularly in client development, requires more than just hard work and competence; it demands visibility and vocal self-advocacy."

Samedi represents global and domestic corporations, investment groups, and portfolio companies in public and private mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and other complex transactional matters. He represents numerous companies in the consumer goods, beauty, manufacturing, food and beverage, and pharmaceuticals industries, among others. For clients on both the buy- and sell-side, he leads the negotiation and closing of deals involving refinancing, restructuring, securities offerings, and private investments.

Passionate about pro bono work, Samedi advises nonprofits on corporate governance and cleanup issues, and has assisted on matters ranging from a sale of intellectual property assets to a business restructuring. He also negotiated the merger of several nonprofit entities into Literacy NJ, a nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating adult illiteracy in New Jersey through individualized instruction and tutoring. Samedi is deeply involved in Lowenstein's diversity, recruiting, and mentoring programs: he co-founded Lowenstein's Diversity Leadership Network, an employee resource group focused on recruiting, supporting, and promoting diverse attorneys; he is a partner coordinator and partner mentor of the Summer Associate program; and he is active in the Associate Mentoring program. Samedi is also a member of the firm's Recruiting Committee, the Alumni Committee, and DE&I Committee.
