Congressman Thompson Announces U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Awards to Support Maternal and Child Health Services and Drug-Free Communities Coalition

BOLTON, MS- Today, Congressman Bennie G. Thompson announces two significant awards granted by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to support critical programs in Mississippi. The awards are aimed at enhancing maternal and child health services and fostering drug-free communities.

The Mississippi State Department of Health has been awarded $2,443,906 under the Maternal and Child Health Services Block Grant Program (B04). This funding will support essential programs that promote the health and well-being of mothers, infants, and children across the state, ensuring improved access to medical care, preventive services, and health education.

In addition, Step by Step of Vicksburg, MS, has received a $125,000 grant under the Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Support Program for their project titled "Step by Step Drug-Free Communities Coalition." This funding, provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will support efforts to reduce youth substance abuse and strengthen community partnerships focused on preventing drug use.
