Mexico takes part in G20 Ministerial Meetings on Development and Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty

From July 22-24, Mexico participated in two G20 ministerial meetings in Rio de Janeiro under Brazil's presidency: the Development Ministerial Meeting and approval of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty. The Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (Amexcid) represented the country at these events.

The Development Ministerial Meeting marks the culmination of the Development Working Group, one of 15 G20 technical groups. G20 sherpas will negotiate and incorporate the meeting's recommendations into the declaration to be adopted at the upcoming G20 Leaders' Summit on November 18-19.

This meeting plays an important role in coordinating policies and specific commitments to promote sustainable development worldwide. It also contributes to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals.

The Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty aims to mobilize resources and exchange public policies to eliminate hunger and extreme poverty. It seeks to better align international assistance for large-scale application of effective political instruments and programs.

Amexcid Executive Director Gloria Sandoval Salas led the Mexican delegation in discussions on development, triangular cooperation, and global efforts to combat poverty and hunger.

As 2024 G20 president, Brazil invited member countries, international organizations and other interested nations to join efforts to support the social and economic development of less developed countries. These countries often report high rates of poverty, marginalization, discrimination, and hunger. Access to clean water and sanitation plays a vital role in improving living conditions in these countries.

The Alliance Against Hunger will establish a "Public Policy Repository" of best international practices on development aid. Countries are also invited to join international financing efforts to maximize the impact of the agreements reached.

Mexico will share its success in supporting social development, economic activation and assistance, hunger prevention through agroforestry programs, promoting rural family economies, and addressing child malnutrition. These contributions draw from the results of bilateral, triangular, and regional cooperation projects and programs, primarily in Central America and Caribbean.

Through its active participation in the G20, Mexican diplomacy contributes to improving living conditions for the most vulnerable populations. This reaffirms Mexico's commitment to international initiatives ensuring that no one is left behind or left out of development.
