PROPOSALS to improve and regenerate Westgate and Chaloner Street in Guisborough have been approved by Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council's planning committee this week.
The committee reviewed the plans which will deliver a range of enhancements in the town centre in a bid to revitalise the area and improve residents' and visitors' experience.
The improvements will be paid for via the Government to drive economic growth and promote Guisborough as an historic market town, ensuring the future sustainability of the Town Centre.
Now that planning permission has been granted, it is anticipated that works will start on the ground in Summer 2025.
A contractor has not yet been appointed but once this has happened, the Council will work closely with them and local businesses to minimise disruption. The works will be undertaken in phases to try to mitigate the impact on businesses, residents and visitors.
Cllr Alec Brown, Leader of the Council, said: "We are pleased that the latest proposals have been approved by the Council's planning committee.
"These plans will improve the area and make it a more attractive and practical place to visit, putting more money into local retailers, restaurants and cafes, which will boost our local economy. These plans also honour and respect the town's heritage, and we are absolutely committed to providing a transformed area which everyone in Guisborough can be proud of."
