Washington Supreme Court to Celebrate Return to Temple of Justice with November 22 Reception
November 19, 2024Washington's Supreme Court Justices will be celebrating their long-awaited return to Capitol Campus and the reopening of the Temple of Justice with a reception on Nov. 22 running from 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The reception is free and open to the public, including members from all branches of Washington government. There will be light refreshments available and brief remarks made by the Chief Justice.
The court returned to the Temple of Justice on Oct. 28 upon completion of a two-year, $33.8 million renovation of the 112-year-old building. The Temple of Justice first opened in 1912, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
For the renovation, the Department of Enterprise Services (DES) replaced aged building systems including heating, ventilation and air conditioning; improved lighting; replaced failing plumbing fixtures; and updated security systems. These improvements make the building more energy efficient, help to safeguard historic fixtures and documents, and create a healthier indoor environment for visitors and employees.
Reception attendees can enter the building through the north-side entrance facing the Law Enforcement Memorial. Reception attendees will undergo security screening, which involves passing through metal detectors, emptying pockets into containers and having bags visually inspected.
Weapons are not permitted inside the Temple of Justice building in accordance with state law, see RCW 9.41.305; Carrying Weapons on Campus | Washington State Capitol Campus.
Visitor parking is available on the diagonal drives approaching the Winged Victory Monument and at the Visitor Information Center at Sid Snyder Ave. and Capitol Way. The charge is $3 per hour. Contact the Parking Office with questions at 360-725-0030.
Please note that Water Street remains closed due to construction.
