City of Philadelphia Monitoring Area Near Bartram's Garden; No Threat to Philadelphia's Drinking Water

PHILADELPHIA - The City of Philadelphia is monitoring a site adjacent to Bartram's Garden where discolored ground soil and groundwater had been observed.

City officials are working closely with state environmental partners to assess the situation and ensure the public health and safety of the surrounding area.

It has been determined that there is no risk to Philadelphia's drinking water, according to Randy E. Hayman the Commissioner of the Philadelphia Water Department.

Earlier today, the Philadelphia Fire Department's Hazardous Materials Unit inspected the area along the Bartram's Garden walking trail and found no threats to air quality or toxic run-off, according to Jeffrey Thompson, Philadelphia Fire Department Commissioner.

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection plans additional testing in the area.
