Members for Ashtabula County Boards and Committees Sought

The Ashtabula County Board of Commissioners is seeking interested parties to fill openings on Boards and Committees.

"The individual expertise and knowledge that board members share is invaluable. Serving on a board or committee is one of the most rewarding ways to give back to your community and support a cause that interests you," said Board President Kathryn Whittington.

The following are brief descriptions of these boards:

ACTS

In December, 1986 the Board of Commissioners created the Ashtabula County Transportation System Advisory Board to advise the System on meeting the transportation needs of the residents of Ashtabula County. On August 19, 2008, by Res. No. 2008-287, the by-laws were amended and the name changed to the Ashtabula County Transportation System Advisory Committee. The terms of the members are set at three (3) years.

CHILDREN SERVICES BOARD

Pursuant to ORC Section 5153.16, the Ashtabula County Children Services Board was created to provide for children who are in need of public care or protective services. Pursuant to ORC Section 5153.03, the Board of Commissioners is the appointing authority for the members of said Children Services Board with terms of the members are set at four (4) years.

SENIOR SERVICES LEVY ADVISORY BOARD

The Board of Commissioners created the Ashtabula County Senior Services Levy Advisory Board to assist and advise the Ashtabula County Job and Family Services and this Board in the development and coordination of programs and available services for Ashtabula County's seniors, aged 60 and over. The initial terms on the Ashtabula County Senior Services Levy Advisory Board are 3 years and were staggered to allow for an orderly progression of re-appointments so that the services of the Board are not disrupted. The Senior Services Levy Advisory Board meets every other month, beginning in January. Standing Committees may be set up to function for short-term, to address a special task with a specific purpose and time frame.

Vice President J. P. Ducro IV added, "Board service allows you to invest in your community, build a network with a common interest, gain a new skillset and grow as a leader, all while playing a crucial role in an organization by protecting its mission and overseeing its financial and legal well-being."

"Serving on a board allows you to engage in activities you are passionate about and to work with other professionals to discover the inner workings of an organization and improve its effectiveness for the common good of the community," said Commissioner Casey Kozlowski.

The openings above include vacant positions and positions with terms expiring soon. The Board is accepting applications from the public, as well as from current members seeking reappointment. If you are interested or know of anyone interested in serving, please obtain an application by contacting Crystal Sturgill, Assistant Clerk of the Board, at the Ashtabula County Commissioners Office by telephone at (440)576-3768 or via email at [email protected].
