Partnership for Atlantic Cooperation Senior Officials Meeting

Senior Coordinator for Atlantic Cooperation Ambassador Jessye Lapenn hosted a virtual meeting of senior representatives from 36 members of the Partnership for Atlantic Cooperation on August 28. The meeting focused on the application of ocean-related or 'blue' technology tools to help solve shared challenges and advance Atlantic priorities.

Several Atlantic Partnership members shared experiences exploring technology solutions applicable to local needs, collaborating with experts, and understanding long-term benefits. Each government presented a case study of working with a specific technology: Brazil and SeaSketch on mapping ocean areas with stakeholder engagement; Costa Rica and Global Fishing Watch on data for marine protected area enforcement; Dominican Republic on marine eDNA monitoring; Ghana, via the University of Ghana and the Ocean Foundation, on regional ocean acidification monitoring; and Ireland, through the Irish Marine Institute, on hydrography and seabed mapping.

The Atlantic Partnership engages in collective problem-solving of shared challenges and advances shared principles for Atlantic cooperation, as reflected in the Declaration on Atlantic Cooperation adopted in New York in September 2023. Members share a commitment to a peaceful, prosperous, open, and cooperative Atlantic region, while protecting the ocean as a healthy, sustainable, and resilient resource for generations to come.

The Atlantic Partnership includes 40 coastal Atlantic countries from Africa, the Americas, Europe, and the Caribbean.
