École de technologie supérieure

PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS: SMPTE Montréal/Québec Director

DEGREES: Bachelor of Electrical Engineering, Master of Applied Science (M.A.Sc.), Electrical Engineering

"We are pleased to present Marie-Eve Bilodeau," said SMPTE Montréal Chair Denis Bonneau. "She has been involved in our chapter since 2018. From day one, she took on many responsibilities and carried them to the finish line with passion and success. Marie-Eve is an important part of our team and an inspiration for others to join and make their place in our industry."

Marie-Eve is an inspiration to her SMPTE Section and the industry as a whole. As a freelance project manager with an emphasis on art and engineering, she has amassed over ten years of industry experience, working for companies like Grass Valley and Thinkwell Studio Montréal. She has a bachelor's and a master's degree in electrical engineering, earning the latter with her thesis, "Tangible Audiovisual and Artistic Interfaces Design Methodology."

"One of my proudest moments occurred when I was asked to lead a training session on HDR for my colleagues at Grass Valley," said Bilodeau when asked about her proudest career moments. "As the youngest team member, this opportunity was incredibly empowering. It affirmed my expertise in the subject and boosted my confidence in my ability to contribute meaningfully to my team."

Bilodeau's knowledge has been affirmed in every stage and aspect of her life. As part of her master's research, she wrote an article for the International Symposium on Electronic Art (ISEA) conference and presented it in Barcelona. She presented said paper in English (her native language is French) in front of some of the industry's brightest minds, all impressed by her work and innovative thinking.

"Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of working with exceptional managers who have greatly influenced my professional and personal development," said Bilodeau. "Simon Martineau at Grass Valley and Sébastien Rompré at Thinkwell Studio Montréal provided invaluable guidance and support, helping to build my confidence and encouraging me to push my boundaries."

Her SMPTE colleagues have also influenced Bilodeau. She joined SMPTE Montréal in 2018 and quickly opened up the first SMPTE Student scholarships in the area. They've awarded 20 scholarships so far, prioritizing women in their selections. Bilodeau has also become the Logistics Lead for the annual Montréal Bootcamp conference, actively contributing to the success of this flagship event for the Montreal Section.

"BILODEAU'S CAREER AND SMPTE INVOLVEMENT ARE ONLY JUST GETTING STARTED. SHE AIMS TO GET MORE WOMEN INVOLVED IN THE MONTRÉAL SECTION AND THE INDUSTRY AS A WHOLE."

"My involvement with SMPTE Montréal has profoundly influenced my career," said Bilodeau. "It has provided invaluable networking opportunities, allowing me to connect with industry leaders and fellow professionals. I can't overlook the impact of David Beaulieu, former President of the Montreal Section. His leadership and vision inspired me to get more involved in the community and the artistic domain. Colleagues like François Bourdua, Daniel Despa, Daniel Guévin, and Sylvain Marcotte have all played significant roles in my growth, recognizing my skills and encouraging my development."

Bilodeau's career and SMPTE involvement are only just getting started. She aims to get more women involved in the Montréal Section and the industry as a whole. "I envision a future where their participation is the norm rather than a topic of interest," says Bilodeau. She also wants to expand the Section's scholarship opportunities.

In her downtime, Bilodeau likes to sew plush furry hens. She sells them on Etsy under the name "Studio Carré." She's also developed a passion for pottery. This artistic instinct has helped her career and will surely inspire future industry leaders.
