After the Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Brussels, Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani attended a meeting in Warsaw with the Foreign Ministers of Poland, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain and the European Union. The meeting was convened to mark 1,000 days of Russia's aggression against Ukraine.

"Almost three years after the unjustified invasion of Ukraine by Russia, which continues to cause death and destruction on European territory, I reaffirm the Italian Government's full and convinced support for Kiev and its people," said Minister Tajani.

The Warsaw meeting will provide an opportunity to assess the situation on the ground, also in light of the latest attacks launched by Russia against Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, and the support measures planned by Europe to ensure the defence of Ukraine and the protection of strategic infrastructure ahead of winter. "Italy is at the forefront in providing assistance to guarantee the functioning of essential services and limit the already heavy impact of the war on the civilian population. We are also working towards the future reconstruction of the country: on Wednesday we will host an Italy-Ukraine Business Forum in Rome, also in preparation for the 'Ukraine Recovery Conference' to be held in July 2025 in Italy," Tajani stressed.

The Warsaw meeting will also address the prospects for EU relations with Moldova and Georgia in the light of the recent elections held in the two countries. These topics were also addressed at the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting held today, which was also attended by the Minister.

"In Brussels, I reiterated the need to maintain our financial, military and economic commitment to enable the Ukrainian Government to negotiate a just peace with Russia," said Tajani. In Brussels, transatlantic relations and the stability of the Middle East were also discussed. "In the face of global challenges and threats, we as Europe will be called upon to do more in the area of security but also in the area of growth and competitiveness," the Minister commented.

In Brussels, Tajani also held bilateral meetings with the High Representative/Vice President-designate Kaja Kallas, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, and Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihail Popșoi.
