- As Tropical Storm Debby passes through St. Petersburg, the City of St. Petersburg is warning residents living in low-lying neighborhoods they may experience 3-5 ft. of storm surge overnight.

Latest Storm Updates / Impacts:

  • There is potential for 3-5 ft storm surge overnight, around 4:00-5:00 a.m., and tomorrow afternoon, around 2:00 p.m.

  • A Tropical Storm Warning and a Storm Surge Warning are still in effect for Pinellas County.

  • St. Petersburg is expecting tropical storm force winds through today and tomorrow morning.

  • This could cause flooding in low-lying homes, especially those that have been impacted in previous storms.

Advice / Guidance for St. Pete Residents

  • Make final preparations for potential localized flooding by protecting and/or elevating items inside homes and moving vehicles to higher ground.

  • Avoid driving through flooded streets, as you may push water into neighbors properties and / or risk your vehicle getting stuck.

  • If water is approaching your home, turn off the main power to your home and unplug all electrical devices if flood water is approaching. Do not touch wet electrical equipment.

City of St. Petersburg Response / Services Update

  • St. Pete Fire Rescue has three high water vehicles stationed overnight in low-lying areas to respond as needed.

  • St. Pete Police Department are monitoring street flooding and have teams stationed near low-lying neighborhoods urging people to stay off the roads.

  • St. Pete Parks & Recreation Forestry teams are deployed overnight to respond to downed trees blocking roadways.

  • City crews have been monitoring low-lying areas across St. Pete and staying in communication with neighborhood leaders about their streets.

  • Trash & Recycling operations are business as usual tomorrow, Aug. 5 - weather permitting.

  • City facilities and operations will remain open tomorrow, Aug. 5.
