International Broadcasting Advisory Board Applauds USAGM’s Cost-Saving Move

Washington - The International Broadcasting Advisory Board (IBAB) issued a statement today following the announcement of a deal that will move the United States Agency for Global Media (USAGM) and the Voice of America (VOA) - the oldest of the five international broadcast entities it oversees - to a modern new headquarters, located at 1875 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW in Downtown Washington, D.C.

The modernizing move will allow the agency to operate more efficiently and save taxpayers more than $150 million over the course of its 15-year lease. The relocation will begin in the coming months and occur in phases over the next several years.

"The U.S. Agency for Global Media is focused on strategies to save taxpayer dollars and, at the same time, have a greater impact in its efforts to combat misinformation from authoritarian regimes including the People's Republic of China, Russia, Iran," said IBAB Chair Kenneth Jarin. "The cost savings generated by this new lease for a modern, more efficient headquarters will go a long way toward freeing up $150 million. It will also put networks like Voice of America in state-of-the-art facilities to better compete with our adversaries in the global information war."
