Man Facing Felony Assault Charges Involving Machete Attack After Police Officers Locate and Arrest Him (Photo)

A man is facing felony assault charges after he was tracked down and arrested by Portland Police Officers following a machete attack.

On Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 11:36a.m., Portland Police Officers from East Precinct responded to the 1200 Block of Northeast 92nd Avenue on a report of an assault. When they arrived they found a victim, an adult male, with a serious cut to the arm at an off-road bicycle trail in Gateway Green Park. The victim and witnesses provided a suspect description to officers and a direction of travel down a multi-use path. Officers located and arrested the suspect. A search of the area resulted in the location of a machete (photo), which was seized as evidence. The victim declined ambulance transport and went to seek medical treatment by private vehicle.

Portland Police Major Crimes Unit Detectives responded to investigate. They booked Victor A. Peterson, 37, into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Assault in the Second Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
