The Moorpark City Council is now accepting applications for appointment to the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy Advisory Committee for a two-year term to begin January 2025 and to expire December 2026.
The Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy Advisory Committee is advisory in nature and provides broad policy recommendations to the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy Board for consideration. The Conservancy was established by the California State Legislature in 1980. Since that time, it has helped to preserve over 75,000 acres of parkland in both wilderness and urban settings and has improved more than 114 public recreational facilities throughout southern California.
The Advisory Committee is comprised of 26 members and meets jointly with the 18-member Conservancy Board monthly on the third Monday via Zoom from designated meeting locations. Applicants must be a resident of the City of Moorpark and registered to vote in Moorpark.
Applicants are required to attend a regular City Council meeting, in person, to make a brief presentation on qualifications and interest in the appointment. Remote participation in not permitted. Use of a PowerPoint presentation will be permitted if the City Clerk has been provided with the file no less than 24 hours prior to the meeting. Failure to make a presentation shall result in disqualification for appointment. Application presentations are scheduled for Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at 799 Moorpark Avenue. Additionally, appointees are required to complete state-mandated ethics and workplace harassment prevention training courses and submit a state-required Statement of Economic Interests form ("Form 700") following appointment.
Applications are available on the City's website at www.moorparkca.gov/serve. Applications must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. Monday, December 9, 2024.
