CU Become a Reading Specialist offers information to teachers about additional certification

Certified teachers who are interested in earning additional qualification to become a reading specialist are encouraged to attend "CU Become a Reading Specialist," a virtual workshop slated for Tuesday, November 15, at 5 p.m. on Zoom. This free, specialized information session, presented by the Cameron University Department of Education, will cover the admission standards and curriculum for earning a Masters of Education degree in Reading.

"Often, teachers seek to improve their practice or become specialized in the teaching of reading, says Stacie Garrett, chair of the CU Department of Education. "We encourage teachers of any grade and subject to consider expanding their knowledge by pursuing an M.Ed. in Reading."

By pursuing a master's degree in reading, students will experience the preparation necessary to serve as reading specialists in Oklahoma public schools. The program provides pedagogy in the teaching of reading and specialized knowledge for working with children who find reading difficult. It will also prepare reading specialists to review and develop reading curricula for the schools in which they teach.
