The 2024 Nation's Report Card to Be Released on January 29, 2025
Results will inform how our education systems are helping students make necessary gains in math and reading in 4th and 8th grades following steep score drops in 2022.

(Dec. 18, 2024, Washington, D.C.) The National Assessment Governing Board (Governing Board) announced today that the 2024 Nation's Report Card for the nation, states, and selected districts will be released on January 29, 2025.

The Nation's Report Card, also known as the National Assessment of Educational Progress, or NAEP, will report scores in math and reading for 4th and 8th grades. NAEP is the only nationally representative assessment of student achievement over time for the nation, states, and selected large urban districts.

Results will be available to the public on January 29, 2025, at 12:01 AM ET at www.nationsreportcard.gov.

"The Nation's Report Card is the only common yardstick to measure how U.S. students are doing. The results are essential to understand what students have learned and the road ahead for the schools and communities that serve them," said Martin West, Vice Chair of the Governing Board. "We've seen NAEP scores decline nationally over the past decade, including steep drops in 2022. Leaders must understand and act upon the information the 2024 Report Card reveals."

The nonpartisan 26-member Governing Board was established by Congress to set policy for the Nation's Report Card. The board decides what grades and subjects to assess, determines the content to include, and sets the NAEP achievement levels. It works with the National Center for Education Statistics, which administers NAEP, to release and disseminate results.
