Concord to Open Cooling Center Oct. 1-2

Due to anticipated high temperatures over the next several days, the City of Concord will offer a cooling center at the Concord Senior Center, 2727 Parkside Circle, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1, and Wednesday, Oct. 2. Air conditioning and comfortable seating is available, and those visiting the cooling center should plan to bring their own snacks, water, and activities.

The cooling center may be extended to Thursday, Oct. 3, if temperatures stay above 100 degrees. In this case, the cooling center will open 2-6 p.m. to accommodate the already scheduled Health Expo, a free community event taking place at the Senior Center from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

Residents can also beat the heat in Concord at Sunvalley Shopping Center, Brenden Theatre, and any of the air-conditioned restaurants or retail stores in the area.

Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated. Even young and healthy individuals can succumb to heat if they participate in strenuous physical activities during hot weather. For more information, visit http://cchealth.org/heat/
