Shaheen, Hassan, Kuster Applaud $1.7 Million Headed to Peterborough Company to Develop Low Cost, Energy Efficient Residential Heat Pumps

(Washington, DC) - U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH), alongside U.S. Representative Annie Kuster (NH-02), applauded $1.7 million headed to Evari, Inc., in Peterborough from the U.S. Department of Energy's Buildings Energy Efficiency Frontiers and Innovation Technologies (BENEFIT) grant program. The funding will help the company research and develop low-cost, miniature residential cold climate heat pumps that will help Granite State homeowners and businesses save money on energy costs.

"Installing low-cost, energy-efficient technologies in homes and businesses can reduce costs and help us reach our climate goals," said Senator Shaheen. "I'm delighted to see federal funding headed to a New Hampshire business to continue its research and development of innovative heat pump technology that will save Granite Staters money on their energy bills all while reducing carbon emissions and building a more resilient electric grid."

The New Hampshire Congressional delegation has championed work to secure federal investments in clean energy and energy efficiency initiatives and to lower energy costs across New Hampshire. Earlier this year, the delegation celebrated $43,510,000 in federal funding from the Inflation Reduction Act's Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund's Solar for All grant program and $499,120 from U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development for Clean Energy NH and Plymouth Area Energy Initiative.

Shaheen and Hassan helped negotiate, and the full delegation supported, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which includes major investments in clean energy. A number of those provisions came from Shaheen's bipartisan energy efficiency bill - the Energy Savings and Industrial Competitiveness Act (ESIC) - with former Senator Rob Portman (R-OH). She also included the Smart Manufacturing Leadership Act, the Promoting American Energy Jobs Act and the Heat Efficiency through Applied Technology (HEAT) Act. The full delegation were also key supporters of the Inflation Reduction Act, which included provisions for clean energy and climate investments in New Hampshire.
