CITY PARKS LANDMARK FOUNTAIN RETURNS TO FRANKLIN SQUARE

The City of Syracuse Department of Parks & Recreation announces the completion of the restoration of the iconic fountain in Franklin Square. This beloved landmark returned to its place at the corner of Plum and Solar Streets Oct. 24 and City crews reinstalled the fountain after a 12-month absence.
The fountain, originally installed in the early 90s has been an integral part of Syracuse's landscape, attracting residents and visitors for decades. Over the years, it faced significant wear and tear, prompting a thorough restoration effort to preserve its charm and functionality.
Last October, specialists from Robinson Iron dismantled and transported the fountain to Alexander City, Alabama to complete the restorative work. While in Alabama, the fountain was stripped down to bare metal, repaired, painted and coated with protective finishings to prevent corrosion. A new granite base was installed to prevent leaks. The project was funded by City Capital Improvement Program funds totaling $77,360.
