On July 26, 2024, The New York State Police in conjunction with Essex County Stop DWI conducted an Underage Drinking Initiative in Essex County, NY.
During the initiative, sixteen businesses were checked for compliance. Three people were charged with Unlawfully Dealing with a Child in the First degree, a class "A" misdemeanor, after selling alcohol to persons under the age of 21.
The following businesses were NOT in compliance with the New York Beverage Control Law Section 65, Prohibited Sale to Person Under the Age of 21
-Cedar Run Bakery & Market, Keene, NY.
-Stewart's Shop, Lake Placid, NY.
-Outpost Wine & Spirits, Lake Placid, NY.
The following establishments are recognized for their compliance:
-Valley Grocery Store, in the town of Keene
-Ausable Inn, in the town of Keene
-Stewart's Shops, in the town of Keene
-East Branch Organics, in the town of Keene
-Station Street Wine & Liquor, in the village of Lake Placid
-Walgreens, in the village of Lake Placid
-Stewart's Shops, in the town of North Elba
-Hannaford, in the town of North Elba
-Wine & Spirit Shoppe, in the town of North Elba
-Terry Robards Wine & Spirits, in the town of North Elba
-Family Dollar, in the town of North Elba
-Price Chopper, in the town of North Elba
-Kinney Drugs, in the town of North Elba
During these investigations, Businesses are checked utilizing a Trooper in plain clothes, and one or several underage operatives who cannot lie about their age or provide a false date of birth.
