On July 26, 2024, The New York State Police in conjunction with Essex County Stop DWI conducted an Underage Drinking Initiative in Essex County, NY.

During the initiative, sixteen businesses were checked for compliance. Three people were charged with Unlawfully Dealing with a Child in the First degree, a class "A" misdemeanor, after selling alcohol to persons under the age of 21.

The following businesses were NOT in compliance with the New York Beverage Control Law Section 65, Prohibited Sale to Person Under the Age of 21

-Cedar Run Bakery & Market, Keene, NY.

• Kristy D. Farrell, age 50, of Keene, NY, was charged with one count of ABC 065(1) Prohibited Sale of an Alcoholic Beverage to a person under the age of twenty-one and released on an Appearance Tickets returnable to the Town of Keene Court for a later date in August.

-Stewart's Shop, Lake Placid, NY.

• Thomas A. Davis, age 38, of Lake Placid, NY, was charged with one count of ABC 065(1) Prohibited Sale of an Alcoholic Beverage to a person under the age of twenty-one and released on an Appearance Tickets returnable to the Village of Lake Placid for a later date in August.

-Outpost Wine & Spirits, Lake Placid, NY.

• Janice W. Covert, age 64, of Paul Smiths, NY, was charged with one count of ABC 065(1) Prohibited Sale of an Alcoholic Beverage to a person under the age of twenty-one and released on an Appearance Tickets returnable to the Town of North Elba Court for a later date in August.

The following establishments are recognized for their compliance:

-Valley Grocery Store, in the town of Keene

-Ausable Inn, in the town of Keene

-Stewart's Shops, in the town of Keene

-East Branch Organics, in the town of Keene

-Station Street Wine & Liquor, in the village of Lake Placid

-Walgreens, in the village of Lake Placid

-Stewart's Shops, in the town of North Elba

-Hannaford, in the town of North Elba

-Wine & Spirit Shoppe, in the town of North Elba

-Terry Robards Wine & Spirits, in the town of North Elba

-Family Dollar, in the town of North Elba

-Price Chopper, in the town of North Elba

-Kinney Drugs, in the town of North Elba

During these investigations, Businesses are checked utilizing a Trooper in plain clothes, and one or several underage operatives who cannot lie about their age or provide a false date of birth.
