New Laws Take Effect in Maryland Today

Several new Maryland laws go into effect October 1, impacting employment practices.

Here's what credit unions need to know:

Wage Range TransparencyMaryland employers are now required to disclose the wage range for positions in all job postings. This wage range represents the minimum and maximum salary or hourly rate offered in good faith. Employers must also provide a general description of benefits and other compensation. Additionally, job posting records must be kept for three years, with non-compliance resulting in potential fines.

Mandatory Disclosures in Pay Statements Employers must now include specific details on employee pay stubs, such as the pay rate, hours worked, gross and net pay, deductions, and any additional compensation. Violations could result in fines of up to $500 per employee. To avoid penalties, employers should review and update their job posting and payroll processes accordingly.
