Students Hike Spain's Camino de Santiago

This summer, a group of 10 UA students hiked over 230 miles in 27 days from St. Jean Pied du Port, France, to Santiago de Compostela, Spain, along the famous Camino de Santiago, a route traveled by pilgrims since the ninth century.

Why This Matters: Guided by history professors Drs. Margaret Peacock and Juan Ponce Vazquez, these students were immersed in multiple cultures as they were challenged both intellectually and physically.

Innovative AI Research Center Coming

The University of Alabama is setting a new standard for AI research and education with the opening of the Alabama Center for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence, housed within the College of Engineering.

Why This Matters: The new research center will unify new and existing work across campus, greatly expanding research, education and outreach activities related to the development and application of artificial intelligence.

UAPD Officer Graduates from FBI National Academy

University of Alabama Deputy Police Chief Micah Rodgers graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, on June 6.

Why This Matters: Rodgers was one of 201 law enforcement officers to graduate from the 290th session of the Academy, which consisted of people from 46 states and the District of Columbia.
