2024 Cybersecurity Policy Advisors Network In-Person Convening

The 2024 Cybersecurity Policy Advisors Network In-Person Convening was held on September 18-19^th at Google's offices in Washington, DC. Hosted by the National Governors Association (NGA), the event convened the Governor's Cybersecurity Policy Advisors Network and other state cybersecurity officials, as well as federal officials and NGA corporate partners, to share best practices and discuss cybersecurity challenges and strategies across a range of topics.

The Governor's Cybersecurity Policy Advisors Network (CPAN) serves as a forum for Governor's advisors, state chief information security officers or others identified by their Governors' offices to share ideas, best practices and lessons learned with colleagues from other states, connect advisors with valuable resources and materials, and provide opportunities to hear from subject-matter experts via periodic calls, webinars and workshops.

More than 100 participants, including 30 state representatives from at least 22 states and territories, attended this event. Outcomes from the convening included:

• Creating and enhancing relationships between members of the Cybersecurity Policy Advisors Network;
• Building knowledge and expertise to tackle current and future cybersecurity challenges;
• Sharing lessons learned and best practices in cyber policy with peers across the country;
• Identifying opportunities for future intrastate and interstate collaboration;
• Brainstorming solutions to cyber workforce challenges;
• Providing a forum for state-federal collaboration; and
• Fostering public and private partnerships;

The meeting kicked off with a keynote address by National Cyber Director Harry Coker, Jr. of the Office of the National Cyber Director, who highlighted trends in cyber such as the current state of cybercrime, foreign adversaries targeting critical infrastructure, supply chain risk management, and generative artificial intelligence. The convening included several discussion-based plenary sessions, as well as briefings from leading industry partners. Session topics included updates to the National Cyber Incident Response Plan, statewide collective defense, AI cloud services, and critical infrastructure security among others.
