Thanks to the foresight and generosity of Maj. Gen. (USA Ret.) Josue (Joe) Robles Jr., 10 years after the launch of the Military Health Institute (MHI) at UT Health San Antonio, the institute continues to thrive and enhance the military health research, education and clinical activities of the university.

Robles, who passed away in early July at 78, leaves an enduring legacy of caring and support for members of the military, veterans and the community.

After serving nearly three decades in the U.S. Army, the philanthropist and visionary went on to helm USAA as CEO from 2007 to 2015 and was instrumental in the establishment of the MHI in 2014. USAA employees also significantly contributed to the endowed lecture series.

In honor of Robles and his contributions to the MHI, the name of the Distinguished Lecture in Military Health series has been updated to the Major General Joe Robles Distinguished Lecture in Military Health series.
