Sheriff's Gang Suppression Unit Thwarts Gang Shooting

Sacramento County Sheriff's Gang Suppression Unit (GSU) Detectives developed intelligence regarding a group of gang members who were armed and driving through rival gang neighborhoods. The involved rival gangs have collectively been responsible for numerous recent shootings and homicides throughout the region.
Detectives identified the vehicle, which had been reported stolen during a carjacking where the suspects were armed with firearms.

Last night, GSU Detectives and Sheriff's SED (SWAT) Deputies located the vehicle and attempted to initiate a vehicle stop, but the suspect vehicle immediately fled at a high rate of speed. When the vehicle arrived at an apartment complex associated with this gang, multiple juvenile gang members fled from the vehicle on foot. SED Deputies and Detectives arrested one of the juveniles after locating two loaded handguns and two unserialized AR-15-style pistols with high-capacity magazines inside the vehicle. The arrested juvenile had been previously arrested by GSU detectives earlier in the year for multiple firearms possession charges with other armed gang members. The arrested juvenile was on searchable juvenile probation and had two unrelated felony arrest warrants.

Detectives confirmed that the suspects were en route to confront rival gang members in a nearby neighborhood. Those gang members were also armed and anticipating the arrival of the armed vehicle, which would have predictably resulted in a major gunfight amid unsuspecting and uninvolved residents.

The juvenile was transported and booked into Juvenile Hall.
