Temporary Closures of Gilman Street at I-80 Gilman Interchange in Berkeley September 3rd and September 4th, 2024

Berkeley / Alameda County ― Caltrans has scheduled temporary closures of Gilman Street between 2nd Street and 4th Street near the Interstate 80 Gilman interchange for two nights. Closures are nighttime only.

Gilman Street will be closed in both directions between Second Street and Fourth Street to accommodate improvements being performed on Gilman. The work consists of modification of existing striping (pavement painting), curb painting and marking modification on Gilman Street between 2nd Street and 4th Street.

Schedule

Tuesday, September 3rd: Close at 7 p.m., reopen at 5 a.m. the next morning.

Wednesday, September 4th: Close at 7 p.m., reopen at 5 a.m. the next morning.

There will be flaggers at Gilman and Second Street and at Gilman and Fourth Street that will allow local traffic through.

Detours

Drivers traveling west on Gilman Street should turn left onto Fourth Street, drive south on Fourth Street, turn right on Cedar Street, right at Eastshore Highway, then back onto Gilman.

Drivers going east on Gilman should turn right onto 2nd Street and travel south to Cedar Street, then make a left onto Cedar Street and then turn right back onto Gilman.

The temporary roundabouts on both east and west sides will be open.

Caltrans thanks pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists for your patience as we work to improve the Gilman Street intersection. Every effort will be made to minimize inconvenience to the traveling public.

Proper signs and pavement delineation, as well as portable changeable message signs, will be installed to guide cyclists, pedestrians and motorists.
