Water you doing Sept. 7? Learn about the City’s drinking water on this tour

City Department of Utilities staff on Sept. 7 are inviting people to "Water Discovery Day," an event designed to help people learn about how the City collects, treats and distributes drinking water.

The event will feature tour's of the City's Sacramento River Water Treatment Plant as well as booths with information on how the department operates.

The tours are the first time a City water treatment plant has been open to the public since 2019.

"We are excited to be able to offer tours to the public once again," said Pravani Vandeyar, Department of Utilities director. "The plant is an amazing place that showcases how we make water safe to drink."

Up to 260 people can register for the tours, which will be offered from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Registration is required to attend.

Each tour lasts about 40 minutes and will educate attendees on several stages of the water treatment process.

"We'll guide participants through treatment basins and filter galleries, which are visually impressive," said Vandeyar. "Most people are surprised and delighted when they find out how important each step in the process is."

The Department of Utilities provides drinking water, stormwater and wastewater services to residents and businesses.
