Higgins Announces $1.2M for Flood Mitigation in St. Mary Parish, Total Recovery Funding Now Over $4.5B

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) announced today that FEMA is awarding $1,223,795.00 for flood mitigation efforts in St. Mary Parish.

The hazard mitigation funding is made available through the major disaster declaration for Hurricane Delta (DR-4570-LA), which Congressman Higgins supported.

The hazard mitigation grants include:

• $1,165,525.00 to St. Mary Parish for the elevation of two existing residential structures that have experienced repetitive flood damage. The grant is made at 100% federal cost-share and authorized under Section 404 of the Robert T. Stafford Act.
• $58,270.00 to St. Mary Parish for management costs associated with the elevation sites. The grant is made at 100% federal cost-share and authorized under Section 324 of the Robert T. Stafford Act.

Much of our official Congressional work to advance recovery projects occurs behind the scenes. Funding finalization and the associated formal announcement of funding are the result of constant efforts over many months with FEMA and state and local stakeholders. All funding will be delivered to the State of Louisiana. The state is responsible for disbursing the funds to each sub-recipient.
