Terry Harvey has been with KBR longer than KBR has been KBR. Terry originally joined Brown & Root in 1978 working on construction and maintenance projects. In 1990, he was recruited for a role in health, safety, security and environment (HSSE). Since then, his passion for HSSE and promoting KBR's Zero Harm culture have taken him all over the world, including the U.S., Asia, Canada, Europe and the Middle East.

"I've supported KBR in a multitude of roles and responsibilities within HSSE, and I've realized that, even in different parts of the world, HSSE values are core to many cultures, with families being the common denominator," Terry said. "Because of its ability to transcend cultures, KBR's Zero Harm philosophy is one of the cornerstones for developing a solid, sustainable foundation with our multinational workforce."

By the time he'd joined KBR, Terry was no stranger to the vagabond life, having been deployed to Germany with the U.S. Army at the age of 18.

"You might say I was groomed for travel at a young age," he said. "I was afforded the opportunity to travel throughout Europe and loved experiencing all the different cultures, historical sites, architecture, people and cuisines. I'm still intrigued with traveling and exploring today, and KBR Global Mobility has given me that opportunity and assisted with what can be a cumbersome process."

Terry has good advice for those considering a move through KBR Global Mobility. First and foremost, do your homework, including understanding the contract, the terms and conditions, leave rotations, tax implications, and anything that could affect your decision to relocate for an extended period. After that?

"Patience is paramount in overcoming delays and frustration," he said. "The best moment, though, is when you have arrived, settled into your routine, and the relocation begins to normalize. Understanding local laws, economy, cultural diversity and norms while exploring, and appreciating local values, is also extremely important."

Terry's current assignment has him close to home in Texas. And while he's glad to be near to family, "I'm always open to any opportunity within KBR, wherever that may lead in the future," he said. "I truly enjoy and thrive on high-energy projects in new locations and hope to continue supporting KBR in whatever endeavor comes my way."
