Committee Chairman on European Union Affairs of the Bundestag hosted in National Assembly

On November 21, the Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Sargis Khandanyan and the Chair of the NA Standing Committee on European Integration Arman Yeghoyan met with the delegation led by the Chairman on European Union Affairs of the FRG Bundestag Anton Hofreiter.

Sargis Khandanyan highlighted the development of the friendly relations with Germany and the inter-parliamentary cooperation. He highly appreciated the assistance of Germany to the democratic agenda of Armenia, underscoring that the European fundamental values - democracy, rule of law human rights - are on the basis of our country's development.

At the meeting reference was made to the normalisation of the Armenia-Azerbaijan relations. The Committee Chair presented to the guests the Crossroads of Peace project, and its goal is to boost the communication and the dialogue with the neighbouring countries. In this context Sargis Khandanyan emphasized the necessity to sign the peace treaty with Azerbaijan within short period. The Committee Chair informed that recently the statute of the joint activity of the Commissions on Delimitation between Armenia and Azerbaijan entered into force, which is the first bilateral international legal document signed by the parties.

The Chair of the NA Standing Committee on European Integration Arman Yeghoyan referred to the deepening of the Armenia-European Union relations, the security problems of the region. He stressed the issue of the energy security of Armenia, in that context addressed the initiatives of the solar energy development in Armenia.

Anton Hofreiter also attached importance to the expansion of the multi-lateral relations between two countries, underlining the development of the inter-parliamentary interaction. He noted that Germany will continue its political support to our country.

The guest also highlighted the holding of the 17th Biodiversity Conference (COP17) in Armenia in 2026.
