A Pause on Roundabout Planning

This year, we proposed the construction of three roundabouts to be included in future roadway projects at the following intersections:

  1. Kenwood and Secor
  2. Central and Detroit
  3. Main and Starr

Roundabouts have proven to be highly effective in improving traffic safety for drivers and pedestrians alike, aligning with our Vision Zero plan, which sets the goal of eliminating all traffic-related deaths and serious injuries. Beyond safety, roundabouts also contribute to reducing vehicle emissions, improving traffic flow, cutting travel times, and lowering long-term maintenance costs compared to traditional intersections.

We remain fiercely committed to improving transportation safety for all residents.

However, we have heard the concerns from residents and members of City Council regarding the proposed locations of these roundabouts. As a result, we have decided to pause these plans to allow for further review and community engagement.

Roundabouts remain an important part of Toledo's future infrastructure planning, but we recognize the need for greater public understanding and dialogue around these projects. Our next step will focus on education and outreach to ensure that residents have the information they need to understand the benefits of roundabouts and how they fit into our broader transportation strategy.

We will continue to work closely with the community to address concerns, gather feedback, and identify the best locations for these improvements. Our goal is to foster a sense of shared ownership in creating safer, more efficient, and sustainable streets for Toledo's future.

As we move forward, we will continue to prioritize projects that enhance safety, reduce congestion, and make Toledo a more connected, vibrant city. We appreciate the ongoing input from our residents and stakeholders, and we look forward to continuing this important conversation.
