EXECUTION CARRIED OUT FOR KEITH EDMUND GAVIN

ATMORE, Alabama - The execution of Alabama death row inmate Keith Edmund Gavin was carried out by lethal injection on July 18, 2024, at the William C. Holman Correctional Facility in Atmore, Alabama. He was pronounced deceased by a physician at 6:32 p.m.

On July 17, 2024, Gavin had 3 visitors and no phone calls. On July 18, 2024, he had 4 visitors, no phone calls, refused his breakfast meal, accepted his lunch meal, had a few snacks, refused his final meal, and did not make any special requests.

Gavin was sentenced to death for the 1998 capital murder of William Clinton Clayton, Jr., in Cherokee County.

A brief press conference followed the execution at the Media Center with remarks from Alabama Department of Corrections Commissioner John Q. Hamm and a statement made by Matthew Joseph Clayton, the son of William Clinton Clayton, Jr.

No autopsy will be performed on Gavin. His remains will be picked up by the attending funeral home.
