We advise RES on the development and sale of the Tallawang hybrid solar and battery energy storage project in Australia

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has advised the Australian subsidiary of UK renewables giant Renewable Energy Systems (RES) on the sale of its 1GW Tallawang hybrid solar-battery energy storage project to Enel Green Power Australia (EGPA), a joint venture company co-owned by Enel Green Power and INPEX Renewable Energy Australia Pty Ltd.

The Tallawang Project is strategically located within the NSW Government-designated Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (CWO REZ), on a 1,300-hectare site, approximately 8km north-west of Gulgong in the Mid-West Regional Council area.

The 1GW project comprises a 500 MWac solar farm and 500 MW / 1000 MWh battery energy storage system together with a 330 kV substation and switchyard. The delivery timeframe for the Tallawang project will be aligned with the delivery of the recently approved CWO REZ transmission project, which will help connect at least 4.5 GW of large-scale renewable energy facilities to the grid.

Since the inception of the project, Norton Rose Fulbright has advised on property, environment and planning and connection workstreams. Following the sale to EGPA, the firm continues to provide support to RES in connection with ongoing services to the project in these core workstreams.

Kate Muller, energy partner at Norton Rose Fulbright, commented:

"It has been a privilege to work alongside RES on this project. We are thrilled to continue to be involved following its divestment, facilitating a seamless integration of the project into EGPA's Australian portfolio."

On the disposal transaction, the Norton Rose Fulbright team was led by Kate Muller, and included partner Martin Irwin, senior associate Tarrant Sewell, associates Diarmuid O'Carroll and Edward McCombe, and lawyer Hannah Duke. The wider mandate has involved partners Claire Forster, Jacqueline Plant and Michael McKee and their teams.
