Lights, camera, action! TLU Dramatic Media Presents Cinema 7 x 7

Imagine making a movie in a single weekend-49 hours to be exact. That's what the students of TLU's TheatreXPress will be doing September 13-15, and you're invited to join them! Modeled after the international 48 Hour Film Project, which hosts events all over the world, the challenge begins on Friday evening, September 13. Entrants will be assigned a character, a line of dialogue, and a prop. From there, they have 49 hours to go out and make a movie.

"Each team is led by a current TLU student, and Dramatic Media students comprise most of the participants," says David Legore, Chair of the Department of Dramatic Media. "However, involvement is open to all. Many teams have included family members and friends from off-campus. One of the best benefits is that the event allows new students to join a team and begin collaborating with return students in the early weeks of the semester. It's a very immersive and intensive way to begin building some relationships among our students."

Teams are given two possible film genres-chosen randomly-and can opt to create a film in either genre, or to combine the two. "As a result, the films showcase a wide variety of styles," says Legore. "All films are short, with a duration of approximately five minutes on average."

Interested in taking up the challenge? Contact Emily Weston, President of TheatreXpress, at [email protected], or Hallie Strange, Student Production Manager, at [email protected]. The camera-shy can still enjoy the fun by coming to the Weston Center's Studio Theatre on September 27 at 7:30 p.m., when the completed films will be showcased. Viewer discretion is advised, as films may contain mature subject matter.
