Irvine Police Investigating Fatal Collision

Irvine, Calif. (August 9, 2024) - A man has died after being struck by a vehicle as he sat in lanes of traffic.
This morning, at approximately 12:43 a.m., the Irvine Police Department (IPD) received reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle.
Preliminarily, it appears the man was sitting in the northbound lanes of Jamboree Road, north of Barranca Parkway. A 2017 Lexus sedan traveling northbound on Jamboree Road struck the man. The Lexus driver immediately stopped and was cooperative with the investigation.
Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) personnel responded and determined the pedestrian had died from his injuries. The name of the man is not being released pending notification of next of kin.
Detectives believe drugs and or alcohol may be a factor in this collision.
IPD's Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating this case. Anyone with information about this collision should contact Detective Christopher Ostrowski at 949-724-7047.
