What is Western's Posting Policy and how does it work

What is Western's Posting Policy and how does it work?

October 2, 2024

With fall quarter getting into full swing and a national election several weeks away, I'm writing to share a few reminders about Western's posting policy. Western recognizes the need for groups and individuals to communicate their activities, services, and ideas to the campus community while providing a visually pleasing, safe, and organized setting for the campus community to receive such communication.

For academic areas, please know that custodial staff may remove postings that are displayed in areas not designated as posting areas (not on bulletin boards, on doors or windows, in hallways). Please keep in mind that there are posting areas that the Publicity Center (located in the Viking Union) is responsible for overseeing (exterior banner locations, outdoor kiosks, enclosed posting areas). The policy also defines Departmental Posting Areas.

We ask your assistance in removing any postings that do not meet guidelines on boards that your office is responsible for, specifically bulletin boards outside of your office that you use and that are not designated open posting areas(bottom of page 3). This already may be common practice; regardless it is a good idea for those responsible to review the policy and the related documents linked on the bottom right of the posting policy.

Also, if you encounter any postings or vandalism that you believe may constitute a bias incident, please [how directive to be? Assist? Consider? document?] support the campus efforts to create an inclusive environment by documenting the incident and reporting that to the Bias Response Team. (do we also give a tip to remove it if possible after documenting or contact Custodial? And let their direct supervisor know about it?)

If there are questions about the Posting Policy, please contact Casey Hayden, Associate Director of Student Activities at [email protected].
