ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA - A new partnership between Winthrop University and Central Piedmont Community College (Central Piedmont) will open even more pathways for students from across the region to become Winthrop Eagles and earn a high-quality education.

Launching this fall, the agreement will guarantee all Central Piedmont students transferring to Winthrop in-state tuition and eligibility for university academic scholarships in a move to expand options for Charlotte-area students who are seeking a bachelor's degree.

"Winthrop University's transfer student population has steadily increased over the last year, and we look forward to continuing that trend with this partnership," said Winthrop President Edward Serna. "As the second-largest public institution in the Charlotte Metro, we're excited about how these pathways will enhance the academic journey for our new Winthrop Eagles by helping them seamlessly transition here, easily select a major and move efficiently to graduation on a campus that is known for its family atmosphere and community feel."

"Winthrop is proud to offer these students multiple opportunities to build on their excellent preparation at Central Piedmont and earn a bachelor's degree at a U.S. News top 5 regional institution that they may not otherwise have considered," added Board of Trustees Chair Glenn McCall. "This collaboration emphasizes how committed our two institutions are to student success regardless of a state line."

Central Piedmont President Kandi Deitemeyer echoed this sentiment, noting, "The Winthrop-Central Piedmont partnership is a testament to our shared commitment to student success and academic excellence. By opening new pathways for students to continue their educational journey, we're not only supporting their aspirations but also fueling our region's future leaders. Together, we are building stronger connections between our institutions and creating opportunities for students to thrive in ways that will benefit their lives and communities long after they graduate."
