Seawolves throttle Eagles in LA, 91-36

La Mirada, Calif. (Nov. 18) - Senior guard Jazzpher Evans led six Alaska Anchorage players in double figures with 17 points Monday, helping the Seawolves to a 91-36 women's basketball blowout of Biola at Chase Gymnasium.

The Seawolves (6-1) also got 12 points and six rebounds from senior center Tori Hollingshead as they held the hosts to just 10 second-half points, breaking the school record for fewest allowed to an NCAA opponent.

The Eagles (0-4) - who had lost their first three games by 10 points or fewer - were led by eight points from starting guard Laila Walker.

"That was an outstanding effort from everyone in our lineup - one through 10," said UAA head coach Ryan McCarthy, whose team topped the 90-point plateau for the fourth time this year. "We never stopped being aggressive and never got complacent, no matter the score. I like the way our team has responded after a tough loss Friday, and we're excited to test ourselves against D-I competition next week in the (ASRC/ConocoPhillips) Great Alaska Shootout."

Facing a team picked in the middle of the Pacific West Conference preseason poll, UAA took control from the outset, leading 24-13 after the opening quarter and staying ahead by double figures the rest of the way.

Up 47-26 at halftime, the Seawolves continued their defensive pressure to limit the Eagles to just four points in the third quarter and six in the fourth, scoring their last basket on a putback on the final possession.

The defensive display broke the record of 12 points allowed in the second half against Simon Fraser, Feb. 19, 2011.

Evans made 7 of 11 from the field to help UAA to a .467 (35-75) to .286 (14-49) shooting advantage, while freshman forward Ashlyn Rean had 11 points and nine rebounds, aiding a 55-29 edge on the boards.

Senior guard Ja'Niah Alexander equaled her career high with 11 points (3-4 FG, 1-1 3FG, 4-5 FT), while senior guards Elaina Mack and Emilia Long scored 10 points each. Junior guard Kenzie Sirowich added eight points and tied her Div. II career high from her time at Franklin Pierce with four steals.

UAA returns to the Alaska Airlines Center for its next six games, starting with the ASRC/ConocoPhillips Great Alaska Shootout on Friday and Saturday. The Seawolves play Troy on opening night at 7:30 pm. Find the complete Shootout schedule, tickets and more at GoSeawolves.com.
