The City of Mesquite has hired Sheridan Hodges as the Youth Services Manager.
Hodges, who started on Nov. 18, comes to the City with experience in human resources, education and recreation.
Her work with young people includes serving for two years as a math teacher with Teach for America with underserved populations. She also worked in youth programming for private resort Moonlight Basin in Big Sky, Montana, and as a recreation leader for the Parks & Recreation Department for the City of Raleigh, North Carolina. Most recently, Hodges worked for Bain & Company as a human resources coordinator.
In her new role, Hodges will develop and oversee initiatives to engage Mesquite's youth in meaningful ways, including establishing a Youth Advisory Council to empower young people to take active roles in the community and to advise the City Council on youth-related issues.
She will work closely with community partners, schools and local organizations to support youth development, enhance life skills and drive civic engagement. The City's new Youth Services initiative aims to give young people in Mesquite an outlet to affect change and have a place to interact with their peers and adults on important issues in their community.
Hodges earned a bachelor's degree in business administration with a concentration in human resources from North Carolina State University. As a teen growing up in Eden, North Carolina, Hodges was a member of her hometown's Youth Council, working with the City Council. It was during this time that she found a passion for giving back and hopes she can ignite the same passion for Mesquite's youth.
